Transform your summer with our Cadence Contrast Suite!

Using a sauna during the summer may seem crazy…  Why would anyone sit in a heated box when it’s hot outside?!

Increased exposure to heat actually increases circulation within the body.  This leads to a variety of great benefits, including a cooling effect, especially when combined with cold exposure.  Let’s review a few reasons why using a sauna and cold bath during the summer is a great idea!

When you spend time in a sauna, your heart rate increases, which can help to improve blood flow throughout the body.  As more blood flows through the widened blood vessels, more heat is lost thereby reducing body temperature.  Basically, a sauna is a way to train your body to better adapt to high temperatures!

Bonus: as blood flow increases, more oxygen and nutrients are delivered to your muscles and organs, which can help to improve their function and help to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.  This, along with the detoxing effect of sweating, also can clean pores and improve overall health and appearance of your skin.

Another benefit of using a sauna and cold bath during the summer is that it can help to reduce stress.  When you spend time in a sauna, your body releases endorphins, which are natural painkillers that can help to reduce stress and improve your mood.  Additionally, the heat from the sauna can help to relax your muscles, which can help to reduce tension and improve your overall sense of well-being.

Cold exposure itself can help to reduce stress by triggering the release of adrenaline and other stress hormones, which can help to improve your mood and energy levels.  A cold bath also helps to constrict the blood vessels throughout the body, which can help to reduce inflammation and swelling.  The cold exposure can be used on its own or in combination with heat exposure though the sauna.

Finally, let’s talk about how to use a sauna and cold bath safely this summer.  It’s important to remember that spending too much time in a sauna can be dangerous, especially if you have certain health conditions.  If you’re pregnant, have high blood pressure, or have any other medical conditions, it’s important to talk to your primary care doctor before using a sauna.

Additionally, it’s important to stay hydrated.  Heat exposure from the sun or a sauna can cause you to lose fluids and become dehydrated.  Make sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after your sauna session, as well as throughout each day.

Using a sauna and cold bath during the summer can be a great way to relax and rejuvenate.  The heat from the sauna can help to improve circulation, reduce stress, and improve the health of your skin.  Taking a cold bath after using the sauna can also help to reduce inflammation and swelling, making it a great way to cool down during the hot summer months.
